A famous formula by the even more famous classic of Chinese medicine, Zhang Zhong Jing, from 220 AD, primarily intended for cold blocking the uterus; today, this indication has shifted more towards empty cold from a deficiency of kidney yang and blood. And internal cold often attracts external cold as well. However, what is most important for its use is pain in the lower abdomen (and back, lower limbs) caused by cold, i.e., pain that is relieved by the application of heat. Blood deficiency also contributes to the pain, which, together with cold, is the cause of blockages. Imagine a river with little water, how its flow stops. This blood deficiency can be so great that it turns into yin deficiency and empty heat in the upper part of the body; a typical symptom is a dry mouth and dry lips in the morning.
The mixture replenishes blood and yin, cools pathological heat, disperses cold and warms, and above all – stops pain. These mechanisms simultaneously replenish and regulate the Chong and Ren Mai channels, whose proper function is also necessary for conception.
Even though there are signs of stasis and blockage here, such as fullness in the abdomen, pain, or increased muscle tension, the abdomen usually remains soft – this is cold from deficiency.
A centuries-proven mixture indicated for women's diseases. Although it can also be used in men who exhibit similar symptoms of "cold below and heat above" and suffer from these ailments: infertility, impotence, urinary incontinence, or lack of semen.
