This is a modern combination of three herbs that clear toxic heat following an attack by an external pathogen (Feng Re – wind heat), primarily from the surface defensive layers of Wei and Qi, but also when the pathogen penetrates into deeper layers. It consists of three herbs. Forsythia fruit clears heat and drains toxins in cases where Xie Qi (pathogenic Qi) has attacked the Wei and Qi layers (surface layers). Baikal skullcap helps to eliminate fiery toxins from the body. It is used to clear damp heat (we could say in both acute and chronic inflammation) from the body. It is also frequently used for skin inflammation. The third herb is Japanese honeysuckle flower, which clears heat, drains toxins and is used for acute diarrhoea.
