Use of the formula according to Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  • invigorates blood
  • breaks up blood stasis
  • softens abdominal masses
  • relieves fixed pain in the lower abdomen

Description:

A traditional herbal formula from one of the most famous physicians of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhang Zhong Jing.

The Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan formula breaks up blockages in the lower abdomen. Due to excessive cold in the lower abdomen or as a result of psychological stress, the circulation of Qi and blood in the lower abdomen slows down and eventually becomes blocked. Later, these energetic blockages begin to materialise, leading to the formation of myomas, cysts, polyps, endometriosis, etc.

Indications:

  • pain in the lower abdomen (often sharp, fixed)
  • uterine myomas
  • ovarian cysts
  • painful menstruation
  • dark menstrual blood with a large amount of blood clots
  • endometriosis
  • PCOS (polycystic ovaries)
  • chronic inflammation of the uterus and pelvis
  • cervical erosion
  • enlarged prostate
  • varicocele
  • harmonisation of the gynaecological area after a miscarriage
  • inflammation of the veins of the lower limbs
  • fertility problems in both men and women

Modern use:

  • uterine myomas
  • ovarian cysts
  • endometriosis
  • dysmenorrhoea
  • amenorrhoea
  • polycystic ovaries
  • endometriosis
  • retention of lochia
  • uterine fibroids
  • foetal instability
  • prostate hypertrophy
  • male and female infertility
  • premenstrual syndrome
  • scleroderma

Tongue:

  • purple
  • greasy coating

Pulse:

  • wiry
  • slippery
  • choppy

Contraindications:

The formula is also suitable for use during pregnancy (poor nourishment of the foetus due to blood stasis); however, use with extreme caution during pregnancy (certainly not based on self-diagnosis, only under the supervision of a therapist).

Due to the high dose of cinnamon twigs, I do not recommend it for people who are too hot-blooded.

Recommendation:

The primary cause of material formations in the lower abdomen is often liver stagnation due to emotions and stress. Therefore, Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan is combined with, or rather later (after the breaking up of the material formations) replaced by, the Xiao Yao Wan formula.
