It belongs to the rose family; the fruit-bearing variety of the thorny rose bush originates from Western Asia. Ancient Greeks considered rosehips to be a divine fruit.

It contains a high amount of vitamin C and lycopene. Apart from sea buckthorn, no other fruit contains such a high amount of vitamin C. It acts as a preventative against infections and colds, strengthens blood vessels, helps with varicose vein pain, and assists with bleeding gums and periodontitis. It stimulates libido and potency.

It has a sour taste and a refreshing nature.
