This fruit was discovered on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean Sea, from where it reached America. It is a hybrid of a Jamaican orange variety and an Indonesian pomelo. Originally grown as an ornamental plant, it only began to be used as a fruit in the 19th century. Today, four types of grapefruit are known – red, pink, yellow and white.

Grapefruit contains a lot of vitamin C, B1 and K. The fruit has a high amount of flavonoids.
