Nature:

  • slightly cool (balanced, yang in yin)

Taste:

  • sweet, bitter (pungent)

Tropism:

  • lungs and liver (large intestine, stomach, small intestine, urinary bladder, heart, spleen, kidneys, gallbladder)

Direction of action:

  • sinking

Effects:

  • disperses FENG RE

  • settles and clears GAN
  • brightens the vision

Dosage:

  • 3 – 15 g, standardly 10 g

Contraindications:

  • use with caution in cases of reduced food intake and diarrhoea resulting from qi deficiency and cold in the stomach
