Nature:

  • warm (balanced, slightly cool, non-toxic)

Taste:

  • sweet, slightly bitter (slightly sweet, pungent)

Tropism:

  • liver and stomach (heart, large intestine, lungs, kidneys)

Direction of action:

  • descending

Effects:

  • invigorates blood

  • stops bleeding
  • reduces pain
  • promotes healing

Dosage:

  • 3 – 9 g in decoction
  • 1 – 1.5 g in powder/pill up to 3 times daily

Contraindications:

  • use with caution during pregnancy

Use in recipes:

Gu Sui Bu Wan, Da Po Dan Jie Shi Tang, Su He Tang, Fu Fang Dan Shen Pian
