  • slightly cold (balanced, non-toxic, yin, yang within yin, ascending and descending)

Taste:

  • sweet, bitter (bland, pungent, dense)

Tropism:

  • lungs and heart (spleen, stomach, large intestine)

Direction of action:

  • inwards

Effects:

  • clears the lungs
  • transforms Tan
  • stops cough
  • moistens the lungs (Chuan)
  • dissipates nodules
  • removes toxin (Zhe)

Dosage:

  • 3 – 12 g, standard 6 g

Contraindications:

  • caution required in case of phlegm resulting from empty cold of the spleen
