Taste:

  • pungent, bitter (sour, sweet, light)

  • spleen, stomach and lungs (liver, large intestine, heart)

Direction of action:

  • descending

Effects:

  • regulates the centre

  • dissolves Tan
  • dries dampness

Dosage:

  • 3 – 10 g, standardly 3 g

Contraindications:

  • caution required in cases of internal excess heat, dry cough due to yin deficiency, coughing up blood
