  • warm (slightly warm, non-toxic, strong, sinking, pure yang, yang within yin)

Taste:

  • acrid, bitter (dense)

Tropism:

  • spleen, stomach, large intestine, gallbladder (liver, lungs, heart, urinary bladder, qi layer of the triple burner)

Direction of action:

  • sinking

Effects:

  • moves Qi

  • harmonises the middle burner
  • supports digestion

Dosage:

  • 1 – 10 g, standardly 3 g

Contraindications:

  • use with caution in cases of yin deficiency, fluid exhaustion and fire flare-up
